It’s unclear who will win the current battle for ownership of the Denver Broncos. However, experts reportedly believe the team could fetch a record price for a professional sports franchise.
According to Michael McCarthy of Front Office Sports, the Broncos could attract offers of more than $2.5 billion. That tops the recent purchases of the Brooklyn Nets ($2.35 billion, 2019), Carolina Panthers ($2.28 billion, 2018) and the Houston Rockets ($2.2 billion, 2017).
The Broncos are valued at $3.2 billion, according to Forbes. Denver ranks No. 25 on Forbes’ 2021 list of the world’s most valuable sports teams.
According to Front Office Sports, the $2.5 billion price tag narrows down the list of potential buyers, who include Amazon’s Jeff Bezos and former Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning.
The Broncos have won three Super Bowls: 1999, 1999, 2016. However, Denver has not made the playoffs since winning Super Bowl 50 in 2016.
