We are three weeks into MLB’s controversial foreign substance ban. While New York Yankees star Gerrit Cole was not the first pitcher busted for violating the rule, or busted at all even, he has been one of the poster boys of the movement. His initial response to a question about the use of Spider Tack shined a bright, public spotlight on the issue. Cole’s struggles since the ban went into effect have not helped his cause. But over the weekend, he silenced his critics, albeit temporarily, by throwing a complete game shutout against the AL West-leading Houston Astros. At one point, it appeared as if manager Aaron Boone was prepared to remove his ace from the game, but a fiery Cole pushed back, and Boone ultimately let him stay on the mound. Many wondered what, exactly, the 30-year-old said to his skipper. The four-time All-Star shed a little light on the discussion after the game. “I said the F word a lot, and I kind of just blacked out. I don’t really remember what I told him to be honest.” And, there you have it.
Which brings us to today’s quiz of the day. As of the start of the 2021 MLB season, a total of 23 active pitchers have multiple 200+ strikeout seasons on their resumes, including Cole, who has pulled off the feat three times. So with that in mind, how many of these pitchers can you name in five minutes?
